The School of Occupational Therapy is seeking an Academic Fieldwork Chair for a Limited-Term position for up to 3-years (potential for renewal) at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor. The School of Occupational Therapy is one of seven schools in the progressive Faculty of Health Sciences. Candidates must have an entry to practice OT degree (Bachelor or Masters in Occupational Therapy) and a post-professional degree, at least four years clinical experience (including student supervision), and be registered or eligible for registration with clinical designation with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO). The successful candidate will have expertise in the areas of fieldwork and professional practice and will be required to take a leadership role in managing the School’s fieldwork program. Additional consideration will be granted for applicants with leadership or managerial and teaching experience, and proficiency related to Indigenous health. The anticipated start date of the appointment is March 1, 2025 or as negotiated. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities will include: managing student fieldwork placements, teaching fieldwork courses in the School of Occupational Therapy, working collaboratively with the rehabilitation sector fieldwork team, effectively managing all of the fieldwork functions and responsibilities, recruitment, program evaluation, student evaluation, liasing with fieldwork sites and preceptors, development of preceptor education requirements, chairing the Fieldwork Advisory Committee and the Clinical Experience Committee, development of role-emerging placements, student progression issues, partnering to develop new fieldwork placements and ensure domestic and international affiliation agreements are in place related to fieldwork in the School. Additional duties include development of partnerships within the clinical community to build and sustain the fieldwork program.
The accredited School of Occupational Therapy is recognized, nationally and internationally, for leadership in occupational therapy and occupational science. The School is committed to the development of occupational therapy as a science-driven, evidence-informed, and occupation-focused academic discipline with an established masters (MScOT) entry-level professional program. The School has a new innovative curriculum, excellent teaching, and research facilities, as well as clinical and community facilities to support the development of occupational therapy and occupational science. The School leads the Upper Extremity Rehabilitation field of study in the Master of Clinical Science in Advanced Healthcare Practice program and is a major contributor to the MSc and PhD programs in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The School of Occupational Therapy has four research pillars to optimize health and wellbeing, build diverse and inclusive communities, evolve Occupational Therapy practice and education, and advance social and occupational justice.
