The Institute of Education, Primary Department has an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Primary Education with an SEND specialism. Expertise in PSHE, Early Years and/or science would be desirable, but not essential.
The University of Worcester (UW) has long been recognised for its high quality and innovative provision in Education. The Institute of Education is committed to providing an excellent learning experience and trainee teachers are supported in becoming highly skilled and inspirational teachers. Our REACH vision demonstrates this commitment across all phases and routes in our Partnership.
The Institute of Education is seeking to appoint an inspirational and excellent Primary Education specialist in SEND with a strong commitment to maintain and further develop our strong reputation in teacher education and training. The Primary Education department offers the following courses:
- PGCE (with specialisms in PE and SEND)
- Undergraduate Primary Initial Teacher Education
- Top Up degree in Teaching in Primary Education (Level 6 and QTS only) and
- Reintroduction of Early Years Initial Teacher Training
The Department also offers CPD to practitioners and works with Early Career Teachers through the local Teaching School ECT programme.
This post is primarily for an SEND specialist (primary); you would lead our SEND PGCE pathway, as well as SEND provision across PGCE and Undergraduate programmes. You would deliver the course content with colleagues, taking a lead on the development of this area using the most current research and practice to inform programme content. PSHE and/or science would be useful additions to the Primary team, but not essential.
The successful applicant will contribute to subject and module leadership, course development and teaching in their specialist area, on our range of undergraduate and postgraduate ITE courses as well as on postgraduate professional development programmes for practicing teachers and other professionals working with children. To maintain our strong reputation for and commitment to an excellent student experience we are seeking an inspirational lecturer for this role who can model excellent practice in their teaching and inspire trainee teachers to achieve their potential in the classroom.
A clear commitment to practice-based research and publication is a requirement and you should demonstrate some evidence of your developing profile in this particular aspect of academic work to date. We anticipate the successful applicant will actively engage in continuing their own professional and academic development, demonstrating their love of learning.
From 1 August 2023, the salary range for this role will increase to Band AC2 (Lecturer) £37,100 – £41,732, with the opportunity to progress to £45,585 and Band AC3 (Senior Lecturer) £42,978 – £54,395, with the opportunity to progress to £59,422.
Informal queries are welcome and should be directed to Rachael Paige, Deputy Head of Institute of Education at [email protected]
We value diversity and wish to promote equality at all levels
