About The RoleThe Philosophy Department at King’s College London is seeking an outstanding philosopher with research expertise and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: the philosophical traditions of Asia or Africa; Latin American philosophy; indigenous American or Oceanian philosophy; philosophy in the Islamic world. Research specialization and ability to teach at all levels and supervise postgraduate students in that area are required.The successful candidate will lead or direct their own original and independent programme of research, at an international standard. This is a full time post, and you will be offered an indefinite contract.The Department of Philosophy is one of the largest and most distinguished in the UK. We have particular in the history of philosophy, philosophy of mind and psychology, philosophy of language and linguistics, metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of science and ethics and political philosophy.About YouTo be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:Essential criteria * a PhD in Philosophy or relevant related area (awarded or viva passed) at time of appointment
Desirable criteria * Research and/or teaching expertise or competence in other areas that will help widen or consolidate our curriculum.

Presentations and interviews of shortlisted candidates will be held in Jan-Feb 2025. The start date for the post is 1st September 2025.This post is intended to meet an area of high demand among students, and an area which we have been trying to develop over the past years. It was approved in the AY23-24 planning round but, in order to catch a wide a market as possible (there has been a lot of demand in non-western recently), and in particular to catch the US market, we have decided to advertise this post on 1 Sept 2024 (closing: 15 Nov 2024), with interviews in Jan-Feb 2025, for a start on 1 Sept, 2025. It is important we therefore get the post into the system ready to be advertised in on 1 Sept 2024.The department has a high SSR: over 19 in 2023/4 – once all the students in the dedicated modules we teach for other Faculties are taken into account.Please note that this post is to be advertised with a salary between grade 6 spine point 31 to grade 8 spine point 51.
