This post is full-time and is offered on an open-ended basis.The James Watt School of Engineering (JWSE) at the University of Glasgow is an energetic and growing international centre of excellence for Engineering research and teaching.Our School hosts fundamental research that is developed with the ambition to lead to industrial and academic impact. We expect the successful academic to complement and synergise with existing activities and to develop a network of collaborations locally (across the James Watt School of Engineering and the University) as well as to liaise with industry to translate their research to the highest impact.We are seeking to appoint multiple positions as Lecturers / Senior Lecturer / Reader who will contribute to research and research-led education in Electronics and Nanoscale Engineering Research Division priorities: * RF, Power, and High Frequency III-V Electronics.

  • Quantum Engineering (quantum networks, communications, sensors, computing and photonics).
  • Cryogenic Electronics and cryo-CMOS Design.
  • MEMS/NEMS nanofabrication for healthcare, gravimeters, telecoms, lidar and sonar applications.

We particularly welcome applications from women and other under-represented groups in engineering to deliver a balanced workforce.The School houses the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre (JWNC), which is a 1200 m2 state-of-the-art clean room housing a full range of lithographic tools, etch capabilities and metrology for processing semiconductors, superconducting quantum circuits and integrated optics. The successful candidate will be closely aligned with this facility and develop strong research links across the University’s Centre for Quantum Technologies, other institutions, and industry. Extensive laboratory capabilities exist, including microelectronics, microwave and THz test capabilities within the Centre for Advanced Electronics (CAE). The unified School structure and strong research capabilities across other Schools facilitate multi-disciplinary research in various topics.The University has ambitious plans to extend its leadership in the design and fabrication of integrated quantum devices and systems, through both the JWNC and an initiative to establish a National Institute for Quantum Integration. The post holder will be expected to take a strategic role in realising these ambitions and build a research group working on the scalable components and integration technologies required for future generations of quantum systems. They will take up a senior role in the School and be expected to develop a range of multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary collaborations, providing at the same time mentoring and guidance to younger academics. The post holder is expected to develop and lead academic and industrial opportunities within the School, leading internationally recognised activities that further improve the reputation of the School.
