The School leads research in Autonomous Systems & Connectivity; Biomedical Engineering; Electronics & Nanoscale Engineering; Infrastructure & Environment; and Systems, Power & Energy. We have 172 academics and 176 post-doctoral researchers supported by 62 technicians and 33 professional services staff. We also have more than 500 research students working towards doctorates. Our School hosts fundamental research that is developed with the ambition to lead to industrial and academic impact. We expect successful academics to complement and synergise with existing activities, develop a network of collaborations locally (across the James Watt School of Engineering and the University), and liaise with the industry to translate their research to the highest impact. The Infrastructure & Environment Research Division invites applications for an academic position in Environmental Fluid Mechanics. This role represents a pivotal opportunity to contribute to our vibrant research community and advance the interdisciplinary study of fluid dynamics within civil and environmental engineering. We are particularly interested in candidates who can apply computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to address pressing environmental challenges, bridging the gap between fluid mechanics and biological systems. The successful candidate will join our Water & Environment Group, leveraging the ongoing work focused on modelling the intricate interactions between biofilms and fluid flow in drinking water systems. To maintain our competitive edge and strengthen our international standing, we are keen to expand our capabilities in environmental CFD. The appointee will play a pivotal role in linking their expertise to other areas of computational modelling within the division, fostering synergistic collaborations and pushing the boundaries of fluid dynamics research. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to, biofilm-fluid interactions, multiphase flows in environmental systems, biofluids, and the development of advanced CFD models. The successful applicant will be required to contribute to the teaching of hydraulics and hydrology courses in the Civil Engineering Discipline at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, mentor the next generation of engineers, and shape the future of environmental fluid mechanics within a dynamic academic environment. We particularly welcome applications from women and other under-represented groups in engineering to deliver a balanced workforce. For more information about this position, please contact Professor Sondipon Adhikari ( ).Information is also available from:Closing date: 23rd June 2024We believe that we can only reach our full potential through the talents of all.
