This post is full-time and is offered on an open-ended basis.The James Watt School of Engineering (JWSE) at the University of Glasgow is a growing international centre of excellence for Engineering research and teaching. The School leads research in Autonomous Systems & Connectivity; Biomedical Engineering; Electronics & Nanoscale Engineering; Infrastructure & Environment; and Systems, Power & Energy. We have 172 academics and 176 post-doctoral researchers supported by 62 technicians and 33 professional services staff. We also have more than 500 research students working towards doctorates.Our School hosts fundamental research that is developed with the ambition to lead to industrial and academic impact. We expect successful academics to complement and synergise with existing activities, develop a network of collaborations locally (across the James Watt School of Engineering and the University), and liaise with the industry to translate their research to the highest impact.The Infrastructure & Environment Research Division seeks to appoint an outstanding individual to the position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader in Geotechnics for Sustainability and Resilience of Infrastructure. This strategic appointment will play a pivotal role in addressing global challenges related to sustainable infrastructure development and enhancing resilience against natural and human-induced hazards. The successful candidate will join a vibrant and interdisciplinary research environment, contributing to our cutting-edge research initiatives and teaching efforts in this critical domain.The primary research focus of this position lies in the application of geotechnical engineering principles to sustainability and resilience. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to: advanced soil mechanics, geosynthetics, ground improvement techniques, sustainable construction materials, rock mechanics, and risk assessment in geotechnical engineering. Research methodology may encompass experimental geotechnics, numerical modelling, and data-driven multiscale modelling. Geotechnics addressing sustainability and resilience of infrastructure and the environment in the areas of renewable energy is of particular interest, aligning with the UK and Europe’s strategic priorities. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of sustainable solutions for renewable energy infrastructure, such as offshore wind, nuclear waste disposal, and hydroelectric storage.This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, mentor the next generation of engineers, and shape the future of geotechnical engineering within a academic environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record of research excellence, demonstrated through publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, as well as a proven ability to secure external funding to support their research program.
