Lifelong Learning Tutor – ChemistryJob PurposeAs a Lifelong Learning Tutor you will assist the Widening Participation & Lifelong Learning (WP&LLL) team in taking forward the portfolio of Access and / or Open Learning courses. You will effectively and efficiently undertake a range of duties associated with teaching, assessment and associated administration to contribute to meeting learning and teaching objectives in Lifelong Learning.This role is an exciting opportunity to join our team in Lifelong Learning to help deliver our Access Chemistry classes to students from widening participation and non-traditional backgrounds. The classes are taught online via Zoom on either a Monday or Thursday evening, 1830-2130, with the exception of two in-person lab sessions in semester 2 (usually in February) which are held on campus. Classes run over 2 x 11-week teaching blocks starting in September and January. The level of Chemistry is similar to a Scottish Higher with some Advanced Higher content, and there are up to 30 students in a class. Three hours of preparation/administration time are paid for every three hours of teaching, with additional payment hours for marking assessments.Main Duties and Responsibilities1. To deliver a range of teaching and assessment activities (including tutorials/seminars) online, face to face and in a blended-learning format in WP&LLL subject areas.2. To contribute to the design and development of appropriate teaching materials to ensure content and methods of delivery meet learning objectives.3. To participate in the assessment process, using a variety of methods and techniques and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning. Including setting and marking assignments and exams in accordance with the code of assessment.4. To assist with the facilitation of student learning, and any practical work, advising on skills, methods and techniques to assist the transfer of knowledge, and respond appropriately to the diverse range of learner support needs.5. To contribute, as appropriate, to the ongoing development and design of the curriculum under the supervision of the Subject Coordinator.6. To make effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision including the use of Moodle and other ICT platforms and materials.7. To participate in a range of course administration duties, within required timescales, such as communicating with students, keeping attendance records, internalmoderation, return of grades and responding to student feedback from course evaluation surveys.8. To maintain a weekly record of student attendance and report this to the Subject Coordinator. Actively encourage the completion of student evaluation forms.11. To undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of WP&LLL.Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and ExperienceKnowledge/QualificationsEssential:A1 Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Level 10 (Honours degree). May be working towards post-graduate qualification such as a Masters (Scottish Credit andQualification Framework level 11) or PhD (Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12).
