Tetra Tech International Development (International Development Jobs – Tetra Tech), is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a potential Livelihood and Food Security Advisor position for the FEWS NET 8 (Famine Early Warning Systems Network) Decision Support Contract. This position will be based in Arlington, Virginia. Hybrid and remote options are available.
Position Description: FEWS NET is dedicated to delivering early warning of hazards, food insecurity, vulnerability, and famine to the US Government, USAID, national governments, and various regional, international, and non-governmental organizations. FEWS NET 8 will continue the critical work that FEWS NET has delivered for over 30 years, emphasizing global coverage and innovation in food security monitoring and assessment. Managed from a headquarters office in Washington D.C., FEWS NET 8 will extend its reach beyond traditional geographical limitations, providing decision support services for over 30 presence countries and global early warning of food security and humanitarian crises.
The Livelihood and Food Security Advisor will provide expertise on livelihood systems, design interventions to enhance food security outcomes and assess the needs of vulnerable populations. They will also lead in implementing and evaluating livelihood strategies and identify pathways for improved efficacy of these strategies in partnership with project leadership.
Responsibilities:
* Conduct in-depth analysis of livelihood systems and their susceptibility to various shocks and stresses, including climate change, market fluctuations, and conflict.
* Develop evidence-based strategies and interventions to strengthen livelihoods and enhance food security at the household and community levels.
* Lead assessments to identify the most vulnerable populations, their livelihood strategies, and food security needs.
* Design and oversee the implementation of targeted programs to improve agricultural productivity, market access, and income diversification.
* Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant stakeholders to coordinate livelihood and food security interventions.
* Monitor global trends and policies related to livelihoods and food security, advising the project on potential implications and response strategies.
* Evaluate the impact of livelihood programs on food security outcomes, using findings to refine and improve program design.
* Advocate for the integration of nutrition-sensitive and climate-smart approaches into livelihood programming.
* Provide technical support and training to project staff and partners on livelihood and food security best practices.
* Document and share lessons learned and best practices in livelihood and food security programming across the project and with the broader community.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
* Minimum graduate degree in a relevant field such as international development, agriculture, or a related field.
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in livelihood and food security analysis.
* Demonstrated expertise in household economy analysis (HEA) and other food security analysis methods used to conduct food security early warning analysis.
* Strong understanding of USAID policies and procedures.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment.
* Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages such as French or Spanish is advantageous.
* Current U.S. work authorization is required at the time of application.
