Do you have a passion to work with beef cattle on the largest area of wetland grassland in the
country? We are looking for a stock person to work as part of a 6-person team responsible for
the management of 2000 beef cattle on the Ouse Washes on a 6-month contract.

The main duties will include daily shepherding, cattle movements, routine veterinary
treatments, treating ailments, assisting with record-keeping, and maintaining infrastructure.

What we need from you;

Essential skills, knowledge & experience:

  • Some experience of working with cattle (but this will be an excellent opportunity to gain
    further knowledge of how a large scale cattle grazing operation functions);
  • Good basic knowledge of all aspects of cattle husbandry;
  • Knowledge of essential record keeping requirements;
  • Ability to work as part of a team; and
  • Able to occasionally work alone with minimal supervision.

Desirable skills, knowledge & experience:

  • Sit astride ATV and Off Road 4×4 certificates;
  • Good understanding of agricultural and conservation land management;
  • Relevant ecological knowledge relating to grazing as a management tool;
  • Proficient and competent in a range of land management tasks related to the grazing
    operation
  • Problem solving skills.

Please note that tractor driving experience is not essential, and training will be provided by
senior staff in all aspects of cattle management and welfare.

This is a 6 month Contract, Full Time roles for 37.5 hours per week.

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further advertising
dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.
