Living Collection Assistant – Aviculture

About The Role

Due to an exciting career step for one of our team members, we have a Living Collection
Assistant position newly available with our aviculture team.

We are seeking a proactive and engaging bird keeper who enjoys being part of a team, embraces
change and looks forward to engaging with a new collection plan. 

Home to one of the largest native wetland species aviaries in the UK, 5 flamingo species and a
multitude of wonderful wildfowl, the successful candidate will balance a variety of exciting
sections. You will work within the Living Collection Team to a high standard, meeting the Zoo
License requirements as set by the Secretary of State’s Standards of Modern Zoo Practice. You
will engage with visitor experience, and hit our WWT objectives. 

This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week, 5 days from 7 including weekends and bank
holidays.

About You

The successful candidate will have a wide range of knowledge in a variety of relevant taxa, have a proven track record of working within a team, a drive to learn, communicate and succeed. They will have an understanding of incubation and rearing skills and an interest and respect for animal behaviour. Practical husbandry skills and a driving license are essential. This role is perfect for graduates or professionals with volunteering or placement experience in the field. Our assistant level aviculturists are given access to huge variety of training and experience, which helps transform them over time into experienced team members with a variety of specialisms.
