Applications are invited for locum Consultantposts with as main interests in Obstetric Anaesthesia.This is afull time post at10 PAs with 9 PAs for direct clinical care and 1 PAfor SPA in support of personal CPD, preparation for GMC appraisal and revalidation.(Up to two locum posts are available).Main duties of the jobThe post holder will carry out their duties as a full-time Consultant Anaesthetist. Job responsibilitiesSt Georges Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a skilled and motivated Consultant Anaesthetist to join our dynamic team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute expertise in obstetric anaesthesia within a renowned healthcare institution.Applicants should have the FRCA or an equivalent qualification and have suitable experience as described in the person specification in the job plan description. They should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of their expected CCT date at the time of interview. Applicants unable to work full time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post.Experience of NHS working practices and systems, (minimum one year working for the NHS) is essential.This anaesthetic team at St Georges is a highly diverse and inclusive workforce of over 100 consultants providing expertise in a wide variety of anaesthetic subspecialties including Paediatrics, Neurosurgery, Cardio-thoracics, Intensive Care, Acute and Chronic Pain relief and academic positions in SGUL. There are over 60 trainees from South West London School of Anaesthesiaand clinical fellows who rotate through the anaesthesia subspecialties.The post holder will join the Obstetric Group of Anaesthetists which consists of 20 Consultants. We are a friendly, approachable, dynamic and diverse group, who are enthusiastic in both teaching colleagues and learning new skills from colleagues. There is emphasis in wellbeing and supporting each other. The case mix at St Georges tends to be complex and challenging. Given the huge expertise in the department, it is easy to seek advice / discuss with an expert in a certain field or acquire new skills. Qualifications
Essential

  • Holder of Certificate of completion of training (CCT) training in Anaesthesia or equivalent, within six months of interview
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligible for registration within six months of interview.

Desirable

  • MSc, PhD or similar
  • Other resuscitation certifications

Experience
Essential

  • Evidence of broad experience in all aspects of general anaesthesia and able to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of the patients
  • Experience of NHS working practices and systems (minimum one year working for the NHS)
  • At least 6 months Advanced Training or equivalent, or Fellowship in Obstetric Anaesthesia

Desirable

  • Relevant publications in peer reviewed literature
  • Post graduate research

Skills – clinical
Essential

  • Logbook evidence of all cases within last 2 years
  • Logbook evidence within obstetrics
  • Application form: please include table data from your logbook for the above

Desirable

  • Evidence of attendance at High Risk Obstetric Anaesthetic Clinic or similar

Skills – teaching
Essential

  • Evidence of formal training in teaching methods
  • Delivering teaching to Anaesthetic Consultants and Trainees
  • Evidence of Multi-disciplinary teaching in Obstetrics
  • Evidence of delivering teaching to undergraduate students, postgraduate doctors and/or allied healthcare professionals

Desirable

  • Post-graduate teaching qualification or equivalent
  • Teaching in the Simulator setting
  • Evidence of Teaching at National Level / Regional Level
  • Awards or prizes for presentations delivered

Skills – IT
Essential

  • Use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams (or similar applications)

Desirable

  • Designing info graphics, posters

Skills – leadership and management
Essential

  • Completion of appropriate Management /Leadership course (s)
  • Previous experience /participation in a management/leadership role

Audit, Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) and service improvement
Essential

  • Completion of Audits and/or QIPs within Obstetric Anaesthesia
  • Knowledge and understanding of ACSA (Anaesthetic Clinical Service Accreditation)

Desirable

  • Experience in leading clinical audits, implementing change and monitoring compliance
  • Adapting National Guidelines to departmental level, example RCOA/ OAA/AAGBI guideline
  • Awareness of service development issues

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop rapport with and discuss treatment options with patients in a way they can understand
