Detailed job description and main responsibilities



The post holder will have joint responsibility for provision of the Cellular Pathology service with other consultants within their specialist teams.

The post holder will be expected to attend and contribute to appropriate clinicopathological meetings (appropriate facilities are available) and case discussions, and to liaise with clinical colleagues to ensure a high quality diagnostic service in their areas.

The post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to delivery of the adult autopsy service. If so, this will include performing autopsies at the request of the Coroner; and the post holder will be expected to supervise junior medical staff conducting Coronial autopsies. As such, 50% of the time allocated to performing Coronial autopsies will be included in the job plan.   

The post holder and other consultant colleagues will be expected to provide cover for each other during periods of annual or study leave. Therefore, the post holder may expect planned leaves of absence to be covered by colleagues. 


You should have a CCT, be on the GMC Specialist Register or alternatively be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the interview. Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that you provide confirmation of this from the relevant College or Faculty in the United Kingdom and attach the confirmation to your application.


Individuals wishing to apply must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and should be either already on or within 6 months of eligibility to be included on the specialist register of the GMC.

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.
