We are looking to appoint a Whole-Time Locum Consultant in Endocrine and General Surgery to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Northern General Hospital.We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.Main duties of the jobThe appointee will, together with other Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of Endocrine surgical and general surgical services to enable the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to fulfil its service agreements with Sheffield Health and other commissioners.The appointment will maintain the structure of sub-specialisation within Endocrine surgery, which will improve the quality of teaching and efficiency of the service, benefit training of higher surgical trainees and facilitate translational and clinical research in collaboration with the units of Oncology and Endocrinology in the University of Sheffield.   • Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise
  • Postgraduate professional qualifications as appropriate to post FRCS General Surgery, CCT General Surgery (or equivalent)

Desirable

  • MD or PhD equivalent
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview

Clinical experienceEssential

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Endocrine and General surgery
  • Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post plus any specific experience required for the post

ResearchEssential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Teaching and trainingEssential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

Continuous Professional DevelopmentEssential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and AdministrationEssential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
  • Evidence of ability to work with management and previous experience of management groups.

Desirable

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Clinical governance and auditEssential

  • Experience in performing clinical audit

Desirable

  • Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project
