Barts Health NHS TrustLocum Consultant Physician in Acute or General Medicine with the option of a Specialty InterestNewham University HospitalNewham University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group is looking for 1 WTE as full or part time Consultant Physician in Acute and General Medicine to fulfil a 12-month fixed term post.You would be joining a friendly and growing team Consultant Physicians with a variety of Internal Medicine backgrounds. The post holder will have the option of working fully in Acute Medicine or in up to a 50:50 split with a second medical specialty. A specialty interest is not essential and this post is suitable for acute physicians.A substantive post is going to be advertised within the next few months in addition to this fixed term locum post and this offers an exciting opportunity to join a team that has already doubled in numbers (Consultants in Acute Medicine) in the last 12 months. Further expansion is supporting the development of new models of working and services that support patients attending the hospital and within the local community. The service includes Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service 9-5pm Mon-Friday and an 18-bedded Acute Medical ward (Stratford ward). Qualifications
Essential
- MRCP or Equivalent Specialist qualification
- Full GMC Registration with license to practice
Desirable
- A higher degree (MD,PhD)
- Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc)
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Current ALS certificate
- Higher specialist training in Specialty Interest and General Internal Medicine or Acute Medicine
- Broad experience in Specialty and GIM/Acute Medicine
Desirable
- Experience in Ambulatory care.
Teaching experience
Essential
- Bed side teaching
Desirable
- Formal teaching experiences on courses e.g. PACES
Skills
Essential
- IT skills
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of supervising medical staff
- Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
- Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
- Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs nurses and other agencies
Desirable
- Ability to motivate busy clinicians to engage in teaching
- Ability to develop research projects and supervise trainees in their research
