Locum Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the existing team of 48 anaesthetists and intensivists who provide cardiothoracic and general anaesthesia and critical care. The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate wide experience with higher specialist training in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and excellent TOE skills.We also provide anaesthesia to breast, oncology and gynaecological surgical patients as part of the Barts Cancer Centre.In the recent CQC inspection St Bartholomew’s was rated as Good across the board with Critical Care receiving outstanding within the Well Led domains.Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a license to practise and be on the Specialist Register for AnaesthesiaMain duties of the jobThe successful candidates will be appointed on a 10 programmed activity contract comprising 9.0 DCC and 1.0 SPA. The on call frequency is 1:10 covering theatre and cath lab emergencies.This is subject to negotiation with the successful candidate, in terms of timing and content of sessions, subject to a maximum of 10 PAs.The list of duties will be altered to reflect changing needs of the post, subject to negotiation. It should be recognized that the job description reflects the core activity of the post at a particular time, as the department and individual develop there would inevitably be changes in the emphasis of the duties of the post. Job responsibilitiesThe Department of Perioperative Medicine (Intensive Care Medicine, Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Critical Care and General Anaesthesia), led by Dr Jeremy Cordingley and Dr Martin Lees, the Cardiothoracic Surgical department (led by Mr Steve Edmondson), the Interventional Cardiology department (led by Prof Anthony Mathur) and the Electrophysiology department (led by Dr Mark Earley) form part of the Cardiovascular Clinical Academic Group, led by Professor Charles Knight, CAG Director. The group works closely with the School of Medicine and Dentistry and the William Harvey Institute to promote clinical translational research. Recently, we announced exciting plans to found a joint UCL and QMUL Cardiovascular Institute. We also have well established links with referring district general hospitals and are committed to providing high quality specialist cardiac services for the whole population of north central and north east London and to work with the Network and partner DGHs to continue to improve access to cardiac, vascular and thoracic care. Barts Health is committed to achieving Foundation Trust status. The department enjoys close links with international cardiothoracic centres of excellence.
