We are looking to appoint a Whole time Locum Consultant in General Internal Medicine (with outpatients sessions in Diabetes) to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Based at the Northern General Hospital.We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.Main duties of the jobThe appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for providing a full range of GIM and Diabetes/Endocrinology services across Sheffield and beyond.The appointee will be ward based with a team of junior doctors (1 SpR, 1 or 2 Core trainees, 1 or 2 FY1 or FY2 doctors and a Physician Associate) and will look after patients allocated to the D& E directorate from a specialist medical take. The consultant would undertake a daily review (Monday to Friday) of patients under their care.Together with Consultant and SAS doctor colleagues, they will be responsible for providing Diabetes/Endocrinology Services to enable the trust to fulfil its service agreements to the Commissioners.They will undertake 2 clinics a week a combination of new and follow up dependant on service need.More details about the duties of the post can be found in the Job Description.About usLocated on rolling hills and dissected by river valleys, Sheffield is one if the greenest and most wooded cities in Europe. Qualifications
Essential

  • Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise
  • Postgraduate professional qualifications MRCP or equivalent

Desirable

  • MD or PhD or equivalent
  • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty (if applicable) or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview

Clinical experience
Essential

  • Ability to work as an independent practitioner in the specialty covered by the post.
  • Possess broad clinical experience in the general aspects of the post plus any specific experience required for the post.

Research
Essential

  • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

Desirable

  • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

Teaching and training
Essential

  • Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels

Continuous Professional Development
Essential

  • Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months

Desirable

  • Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and Administration
Essential

  • Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management

Desirable

  • Experience of working with management groups

Clinical governance and audit

  • Experience in performing clinical audit
