There is an exciting opportunity to join the Imaging department at BedfordHospital, which has now merged with Luton and Dunstable University Hospital to form the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.This post is based at the Bedford Hospital site but it is anticipated that the successful candidate will work cross site at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital up to 1 day a week, or as required by service developments and requirements.Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a dynamic interventional radiologist with a progressive attitude, to support the local GI, GU and hepatobiliary services andthe vascular interventional radiology services, as part of the Bedford, Luton & Milton Keynes (BLMK) Vascular Unit.The post is primarily based at Bedford Hospital, however there will be a requirement to work one day a week at Luton Hospital as well. Once thevascular hub relocates to Luton Hospital in 2024, vascular interventional work is expected to be undertaken primarily at the Luton site.There will initially be a General Radiology on-call commitment, currently 1 in 11, up to 8pm on weekdays and 3pm on weekends, moving to a7-day Intervention service / on-call in the nearfuture.Home reporting has been functional at Bedford since before the pandemic and there is an option for working extended days if preferred.With the expansion in national training numbers, we aim to start Radiology registrar rotations at Bedford next year, to support the alreadywell-established posts at Luton, so an interest in teaching will be very welcome. Job responsibilitiesThis is a full-time post, but those wishing to work less-than full time will also be considered equally.Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital.To deliver a high-quality imaging service with a focus on Interventional Radiology,To share, with colleagues in the Imaging Department, the management of all patients referred to the Trust.To share in the general radiology work of the department including currently a 1 in 11 on call rota, moving to a 7-day service/ Interventional on-call in the near future.To support radiographers and sonographer staff in the department and be involved in the teaching and training of specialist registrars grade, junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students.To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).Person Specification
GMC Registration
Essential

  • Full GMC Registration and license to practice
  • Subspecialty training in Interventional Radiology

Desirable

  • Fellowship in Interventional Radiology from accredited centre
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT or CESR

Qualifications / Higher Qualification
Essential

  • MB BS, FRCR or equivalent

Desirable

  • MD, PhD or other higher degree
  • EBIR

Knowledge and Clinical skills:
Essential

  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Interventional Radiology
  • Proven expertise and training in GI/GU/hepatobiliary/vascular interventions
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for clinical work and delivering service

Management/Audit Teaching Research/Publications
Essential

  • Evidence of management experience or training
  • Teaching of medicine to trainees and other medical students

  • Some research experience
