Locum Consultant in Older Peoples Medicine

The Leeds Centre for Older Peoples Medicine is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Geriatrician. The successful candidate will be working as part of the Older Peoples Medicine team delivering inpatient care for patients based within our specialty wards, medically optimised for discharge and outlier wards within the Trust. There may be the opportunity to provide some sessions on our same day emergency care unit or our Virtual Frailty Ward and this can be discussed at appointment. The post will be 10 PA but we are willing to discuss less than full time for any potential candidates that are interested. The initial appointment will be for 6 months with a view to a longer period of time if successful.The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic and supportive Older Peoples Medicine team which has 31 consultant colleagues, supported by a team of qualified and trainee ACPs and 2 substantive PAs.Main duties of the jobThe post focuses on the delivery of care of Older People.To ensure high quality and safe care of elderly medical patients resulting in excellent clinical outcomes.To contribute to the care of patients on the older peoples admission and specialty wards thereby extending Geriatrician presence throughout the usual working week.To be able to contribute to the out-of-hours provision of elderly medicine on a rota if wish to do soTo show clinical leadership in patient care, service development and clinical governance.To work co-operatively and effectively as part of the wider elderly medicine team, being held to account for clinical, service development and training outcomesApplicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Older Peoples medicine. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.The successful applicants should hold accreditation in Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent, and should be on the Specialist Register.About usLeeds Teaching Hospitals is one the largest teaching hospital trusts in Europe, with access to leading clinical expertise and medical technology.
