Locum Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases

Job summaryWithin WLCH, Paediatric Infectious Diseases Department is the largest of its kind in London, delivering both elective and non-elective activity, at a local, secondary and tertiary level. This internationally renowned, academically led, service includes speciality paediatric infectious diseases clinics for HIV; TB; Hepatitis; congenital infections; general and complex infections; specialist vaccine advice, auto-inflammatory fever syndromes, recurrent infections and Kawasaki’s disease. It provides specialist clinical input to all the neonatal and paediatric intensive care units, as well as specialist paediatric services. The service is responsible for first line paediatric antibiotic policies, and antimicrobial stewardship. The service is an NHSE commissioned paediatric centre for airborne and contact High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID).This postholder will join the acute attending rota, covering the ward and providing advice and guidance for WLCH and external consults. In addition, this postholder will take a lead for neonatal and perinatal infections within WLCH, working closely with the Northwest London Perinatal Network. This will include close working with the infection prevention control (IPC team) to prevent outbreaks within neonates and paediatrics. This post is for six months. This job is suitable for post-CCT doctors, who have clinical training and expertise in paediatric infectious disease.Main duties of the jobThis post holder will be expected to:

The team have been involved in policy, guideline development and national and international educational activities to support clinicians caring for children involved in these outbreaks.Pandemic preparedness: In the post COVID era, readiness for further outbreaks is key. National lead for High Consequence Infectious Diseases with expertise in emerging infections including Avian Flu/ MPox.Perinatal Infections: in 2023/24 our service saw mother infant dyads with congenital CMV, HSV, Toxoplasmosis, Syphilis, HTLV, HIV and others. These infants require expertise and ongoing care for diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care. These infants are identified prior to delivery and discussed at a monthly perinatal meeting. Lead local/national guideline development for management of these pregnancies and care of the infants.Job description
