The Palliative Care service at Barts Health NHS Trust, are currently welcoming applications for a locum consultant in palliative care (twelve month maternity cover). The successful candidate with be based at both St Bartholomew’s & Whipps Cross Hospitals.Barts Health NHS Trust provides a large range of clinical services to people in east London and beyond. We operate from four major hospital sites (The Royal London, St Bartholomew’s, Whipps Cross and Newham) and a number of community locations, including Mile End Hospital. Around 2.5 million people living in east London look to our services to provide them with the healthcare they need.Specialist Palliative Care is provided at all hospitals within Barts Health NHS Trust. Hospital Palliative Care at St. Bartholomew’s, The Royal London, Newham and Whipps Cross Hospitals are managed as a networked service from the St. Bartholomew’s site through the Barts Cancer Centre. Job responsibilitiesTo contribute to the provision of comprehensive, efficient and high-quality care throughout the treatment and management pathway of patients with Specialist Palliative Care needs.To help co-ordinate the provision of a consolidated service across all sites in the Trust.To undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients in their charge and the running of their clinics or departments.To participate in the consultant on-call rota and provide cover for colleagues in time of absence and leave when required.To have a key role in providing a high-quality clinical service for patients with palliative care needs, developing and establishing models of delivering specialist palliative care adviceTo contribute to locality, network and national workforce streams or councils.To maintain up-to-date specialist knowledge and provide evidence based care for all patients.To attend Specialist Palliative Care multidisciplinary team meetings and share in attendance at other cancer and relevant non-malignant MDMs.Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or be eligible for registration/ or entry into the specialist register within 6 months of the interview)
• Applicants will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the CCT
• CESR
• MRCP/ FRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification and/or experience

Desirable

• Higher research degree (MD, PhD, MD (Res))
• Accredited Educational Supervisor
• Other qualifications which might enhance the provision of the service e.g. Teaching qualification, management qualification

Experience
Essential

• Have experience in the management of resources
• Evidence of experience in Specialist Palliative Care in different settings
• Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems
• Experience of teaching a variety of styles and to various audiences
• Able to take responsibility of service without direct supervision

Desirable

• Excellent publication record

Knowledge
Essential

• Evidence of board based knowledge and experience in specialised palliative care in different settings.

Skills
Essential

• Evidence of leadership
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and with colleagues at different locations
• Good oral and written communications skills
• Ability to relate to colleagues and other professionals and communicate between specialities and disciplines
