There is an exciting opportunity in the Northamptonshire Vascular Service for appointment to the post of Consultant Vascular SurgeonThis post is for a full time Consultant Vascular Surgeon. We are looking to appoint an individual who can work well in our team and who can bring an additional range of skills.We would welcome a candidate who has both open vascular and endovascular experience but independent endovascular skills is not an essential requirement.Main duties of the jobThe initial job plan comprises a total of 10 PAs per week (8.5 DCC PAs, including on call, and 1.5 SPA and is subject to annual review with the Clinical Director.The service operates a 6 week rolling timetable. Elective activities include regular all-day theatre vascular list, Half day vascular CEPOD list and outpatient clinics in the county. You are required to attend the Vascular MDT, weekly planning and M& M meetings on Fridays and a regular vascular consultant meeting.Not currently included, are additional operating theatre sessions in the day surgical unit, for vascular access & venous surgery.There is capacity for endovascular sessions within the 6 week cycle in the IR suite for appointees with endovascular competence with potential for future expansion to day case angiography lists at KGH. This job will ideally suit a modern hybrid vascular surgeon with endovascular skills.A representative initial job plan for this role is shown on the JD. Clinics are held in NGH, outreach clinics in KGH, Corby & Nene Park. The detailed job plan will be subject to agreement with the service lead and the Trust.The job plan shown in the JD is provisional, modelled on the current plan being worked by the locum consultants (subject to change). Agreed job plans will include travel and patient admin time. All vascular consultants are currently allocated 1PA for patient admin and 1.5 PA for basic SPA.There will be an option to increase the job plan to 12 Pa’s if this is agreed.About usNorthampton General Hospital is one of the largest employers in the area and we are on an exciting journey. OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Essential

  • Full registration with General Medical Council

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
Essential

  • Relevant speciality degree
  • Completion of Specialty Training (CST or equivalent) or within 6 months of achieving it in relevant specialty
  • Education / Medical Education Qualification (preferably at Masters level)

Desirable

  • MD, PhD or other higher degree

TEACHING/AUDIT/QUALITY IMPROVEMENT
Essential

  • Experience of Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Experience of Teaching Junior Staff
  • Experience of Undergraduate Teaching

Desirable

  • Experience in Curriculum development and delivery

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS AND RESEARCH
Desirable

  • Publications in recognised Medicine / Medical Education Journals or Presentations at National Level
  • Research experience relating to quality improvement
