This is a 6-month Medical Oncology Locum Consultant post with special interests in breast and gynaecological cancers, delivering systemic anti-cancer therapies, with the possibility to extend further. The post will support two established and experienced non-surgical oncology teams and will be based at the Leeds Cancer Centre, St Jamess University Hospital.There will be opportunities to contribute to the MDT and departmental meetings, as well as teaching and service developments. This is an exciting time to join our Breast and Gynaecology Services as we are currently looking at pathway redesigns, alongside developing the services and the team.Main duties of the jobMAIN DUTIES OF THE POSTAttendance at breast and gynae clinics.Attendance at MDT meetings.Participate in ward rounds and the on-call rota.Prescription of systemic and hormone therapy.Discussion with patients and their relatives.Initiation / change of treatments.Manage patients receiving treatment for breast and gynaecological cancer.Attendance at service and departmental meetings.Work closely with clinical colleagues and support the wider breast and gynae teams with clinical activity. Job responsibilitiesBACKGROUNDThis is a 10PA locum appointment for a Consultant Medical Oncologist, with special interests in Breast and Gynaecology.This post will deliver 6 PAs supporting the Gynaeoncology team (Dr Hall, Dr Jackson & Dr Young) and 4 PAs supporting the Breast cancer team (Dr Jackson, Professor Velikova, Professor Twelves, Dr Kallol & Dr Viggars).The post will support established and experienced multi-disciplinary non-surgical Oncology Breast and Gynaecology teams and will be based at the Leeds Cancer Centre, St Jamess University Hospital. The successful candidate will work alongside the non-surgical Oncology breast team which is led by Dr David Jackson and is supported by Professor Chris Twelves, Professor Galina Velikova, Dr Indu Chaudhuri, Dr Andrew Viggars, Dr Kallol Badri and Dr Keren OConnor. The successful candidate will also work alongside the non-surgical Oncology Gynaecology team which is led by Professor Hall, Dr Jackson and Dr Young.There will be opportunities to contribute to the central Leeds Breast and Gynaecology MDTs and departmental meetings, as well as teaching, research and service developments. OBJECTIVES OF THE POST. To deliver care to patients with Breast and Gynaecological cancers at the Leeds Cancer Centre, through:Out-patient clinicsSupervision of patientsCare of in-patients on a 1:3 rota (Gynae ward patients)Contribute to Specialist Multi-disciplinary team meetingsContribution to a medical oncology on-call rota 1:14. To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and across the Yorkshire Cancer Network.. To work with colleagues across medical oncology to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in 14). This includes both out-of-hours cover in addition to acute ward rounds during normal working hours.. To contribute to research, teaching, and new developments within the Leeds Cancer Centre. General Training and QualificationsThe appointee must hold accreditation in MB BS, MB ChB or equivalent with the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent and have completed higher specialist training (or equivalent) if currently in a training programme within the UK.Applicants must be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.Applicants must provide information regarding their status from the GMC and/or relevant Royal College at the time of application, in order for their application to be progressed further.. Clinical AuditThe appointee will be expected to contribute and, where appropriate, take the lead in the following:Mortality and morbidity meetingsClinical audit programmesDevelopment and application of agreed clinical guidelines.This is to be included in allocated time in the individuals job plan as a supporting programmed activity. It would be expected that the time allocated for this would include attendance at the relevant departmental audit meeting(s) and that such attendance would be recorded (in accordance with the Trusts clinical audit policy).In the discharge of these responsibilities the candidate will be expected to maintain and update his/her skills and knowledge through appropriate continuing medical education.. TEACHINGThe Trust as a teaching hospital recognises the importance of links with the University of Leeds, School of Medicine for the undergraduate teaching and all Consultant and medical staff are required to provide an appropriate contribution to the undergraduate teaching programme.The post-holder will be required to participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the school of Medicine, University of Leeds, which is organised on a speciality or clinical area basis.The post-holder will be required to collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliver appropriate undergraduate teaching in accordance with the Trust contract with the NHS Executive in association with the University of Leeds.The appointee will be expected, with colleagues to also contribute to the teaching of postgraduates, including the teaching programme for SpRs in medical oncology in the Local Education and Training Board.. JOB PLAN AND WORKING ARRANGEMENTSThe job plan review will take place annually, normally with the Clinical Director or Lead Clinician for medical oncology. The annual job plan review may result in a revised job plan. There may be an interim review of the job plan where duties, responsibilities, accountability arrangements or objectives have changed or need to change significantly within the area.. Proposed Job PlanThe post consists of 10 PAs with 8,5 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 PAs of supporting professional activity (SPA). These 10PAs will be delivered in St James University Hospital.This job plan will fit together with colleagues job-plans with a careful rota of clinical sessions, to ensure robust cover.Person Specification

• Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.
