Our client is a leading provider of comprehensive health and wellness solutions in Canada. We are seeking a dynamic Manager of Laboratory Operations, to lead and manage the laboratory and specimen processing departments, ensuring efficient operations, technical excellence, and outstanding team performance. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will oversee a team of approximately 35 employees in a dynamic diagnostic environment, focusing on science-based deadlines and operational precision.How You Will Stand Out and Make a Difference:Operational Leadership

  • Manage the scientific and technical functions of the laboratory, ensuring methodologies and equipment meet industry standards.
  • Oversee quality control processes, proficiency testing, and corrective actions in collaboration with the Medical Director and QC Manager.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental guidelines for abnormal and STAT report handling.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate department policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Monitor inventory, order supplies, and oversee equipment maintenance and facility management.
  • Manage scheduling, workflow optimization, and resource allocation to meet business and operational goals.

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a diverse team of 35 employees, promoting a positive and productive work environment.
  • Address conflicts, provide performance feedback, and implement development initiatives to elevate team performance.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, training, and orientation of new hires.
  • Ensure staff receive proper safety training and instructions for their assigned roles.

Budget and Financial Management

  • Identify, prioritize, and manage departmental budget needs, ensuring financial accountability and resource optimization.
  • Monitor and control budget utilization while maintaining service excellence.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate across departments to ensure seamless integration of lab and IT systems.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to support team dynamics and operational goals.

What You Bring to the Role:Leadership and Management Skills

  • Proven ability to manage diverse teams in a professional laboratory environment.
  • Strong conflict resolution, coaching, and team-building skills to enhance team performance.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational planning, resource allocation, and customer service best practices.

Technical Competence

  • Familiarity with diagnostic testing processes, lab workflows, and quality assurance systems.
  • Ability to develop and refine value streams and process maps for improved efficiency.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry or certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience in a clinical or diagnostic lab setting, with increased responsibility over time.
  • International and academic lab experience considered an asset
