Join us!Role ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Director, Access Policy and Privacy, this position leads a team of professional staff in the delivery of privacy services to supported Government of Alberta departments, agencies, boards and commissions. The position leads, coaches and develops staff, and manages issues and challenges related to service delivery and unit resource allocation.The Manager, Privacy Services works collaboratively with senior leadership in their respective assigned public bodies by providing timely and strategic advice, establishing best practices, and implementing privacy management tools and processes to support the delivery of services in a way that ensures compliance with the privacy requirements of the FOIP Act.Your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Planning and managing efficient and effective use of resources to achieve goals and priorities;
  • Coaching and developing staff;
  • Providing leadership and management to a team of staff in the delivery of privacy services including:
  • Providing recommendations and analysis to senior leadership regarding various requests;
  • Conducting analysis and providing advice to public body staff on privacy related matters; and
  • Providing guidance and direction to the public body on privacy matters including: complaints, privacy breach response, investigations, and privacy impact assessments.
  • Ensuring privacy requests are processed in alignment with best practices and processes; and
  • Providing leadership in the management of sensitive privacy files, including recognizing when legal advice is required and consulting with legal counsel as required.

  • A related university degree (e.g., Public Administration, Law, Computer Science, etc.), supplemented by at least four (4) years of related experience
  • Knowledge of the FOIP Act/Regulation, publication and guidelines and experience interpreting legislation
  • Experience working in a privacy role
  • Leadership experience

Assets:

  • Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) Certificate
  • Strong agility skills with the ability to manage changing priorities
  • Strong political acumen
  • Experience with complex files

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
