Job Title: Marine and Freshwater Project Coordinator – (Also known as: Marine and
Freshwater Engagement Officer, Partnerships Coordinator, or Project Officer)

Contract details

Contract Length: 18 month fixed term.

Working hours: 37.5 hours per week 9am-5.30pm mon-fri (flexible working required with some
early morning, evening and weekend working)


Location: Hybrid – 3 days in the office (Caban CIC, Brynrefail, Caernarfon LL55 3NR), 2
flexible (home or field). Includes site work across North Wales and monthly in-person meetings.


Pension: Trust contribution of 9%


Holiday: 20 days paid leave plus any statutory bank holidays (28 days).

Marine and Freshwater Project coordinator

We are seeking a dynamic individual to lead our engagement and outreach work across the
Menai Strait catchment, developing strong relationships with communities, partners, and
stakeholders to support our conservation goals for the Strait and its connected rivers. The
role also involves coordinating and delivering our water quality testing and citizen science
programmes, helping local people take an active role in understanding and improving their
waterways.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for the natural environment,
excellent communication skills, and hands-on experience delivering engagement or environmental
projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engagement strategy: Create a comprehensive stakeholder
  engagement strategy for the catchment, building off the existing work of the Menai Strait
  Partnership Forum.
• Manage stakeholder relationships: Cultivate and maintain positive working
  relationships with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including:-
• • Local communities and community groups
  • Statutory bodies and regulators
  • National and local government representatives
  • Academic and scientific bodies
  • Commercial industry representatives (e.g., fisheries, renewable energy,
    shipping)
  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
• Support project delivery: Work closely with the wider team to embed stakeholder
  perspectives, ensuring project goals are met collaboratively.
• Manage communications: Assist in developing and updating communications materials,
  presentations, and briefings tailored to a range of different audiences.
• Organize events and meetings: Plan and facilitate stakeholder workshops, events,
  and consultation meetings.
• Report on progress: Monitor and report on the effectiveness of engagement
  activities and progress against project objectives. 
• Collating water quality data including building on citizen science
  programs.
• Manage and enhance external channels: website, social media, press,
  publications.

Personal specifications

Essential

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the
  ability to convey complex issues to different audiences.
• A proven background in stakeholder engagement, public relations, or communications,
  ideally within the environmental, marine, or freshwater sector.
• A strategic and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• A genuine passion for conservation and stakeholder engagement.
• Drive and motivation.
• You must live within our catchment area. 
• You must have a full clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• A good attitude to teamwork and to the wider goals of the charity.
• Flexible attitude to working hours as some early morning, evening and weekend
  working will be required.

Desirable

• Welsh speaker
• Relevant degree (e.g. Science, Communications, Conservation, Marine Biology) or
  equivalent experience in freshwater and /or marine systems.
• A strong understanding of marine and/or freshwater conservation issues and the
  relevant policy frameworks.
• Experience of citizen science or scientific monitoring
• Experience using GIS and map based products

This is a fixed-term, 18-month position with an expected start as soon as
possible.
