Job Summary

This position will be filled as with a Materials Verification Specialist or Senior Materials Verification Specialist.

The Materials Verification Specialist role conducts receipt inspection of safety and non-safety related material (with regulatory/quality requirements) to accept/reject materials and/or services for use at nuclear power stations. The role reviews data and documentation for completeness and accuracy and ensures it meets the Purchase Order requirements. Conducts testing activities in the materials verification laboratory on safety and non-safety materials. Verifies test equipment is in-calibration for accuracy.

The Senior Materials Verification Specialist role conducts detailed inspections of safety and non-safety related material with regulatory/quality requirements to accept/reject materials and/or services for use at nuclear power stations. Develops and maintains databases and data gathering instruments for material verification lab. Conducts and/or advises on complex testing activities on safety and non-safety materials including Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), high energy circuit breaker performance testing, relief valve function tests, etc. Reviews station corrective action reports and vendor material deficiency notices for applicability and as part of receipt inspection. Works with vendors, station personnel and supply chain personnel as needed to resolve issues and ensure material quality is maintained. Performs duties of supervisor in his/her absence. Develops materials verification testing procedures and assists in development of administrative procedures. Conducts qualification training on material verification laboratory test equipment and provides certification program.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Materials Verification Specialist

  • 2+ years of related experience.

  • Full knowledge of codes, standards, policies and procedures.

  • General knowledge of chemistry, metallurgy and physics.

  • Specific knowledge of mechanical and electrical testing.

  • Specific knowledge of quality principles and statistics.

  • General knowledge of tracking, trending and reporting.

  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft office products.

  • Skills: procedures development and application; fraudulent materials identification; perform assessments, audits and surveillance.

  • Abilities: lift up to 50 lbs.; walking from level to level of warehouse and other areas of station; climbing, stooping, bending, prolonged standing and lying on side or back to perform receipt inspections; manual dexterity for using measuring equipment and tools; vision for reading and inspecting; work independently.

Senior Materials Verification Specialist

  • 5+ years of related experience.

  • Full knowledge of codes, standards, policies and procedures.

  • General knowledge of chemistry, metallurgy and physics.

  • Full knowledge of mechanical and electrical testing.

  • Full knowledge of quality principles and statistics.

  • Specific knowledge of tracking, trending and reporting.

  • Skills: procedures development and application; oral and written communication (including technical writing); assessments, audits and surveillance; interpersonal; computer applications.

  • Abilities: lift up to 50 lbs.; walking and climbing to perform assessments and resolve problems; work independently.

Education Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required.
