Job description

Can you offer solid mathematical knowledge backed by an impressive academic record? Would you enjoy working as part of a small, motivated software development team on the design and development of complex, high-quality geometric modelling software? This company designs sophisticated computer graphics, visualisation and solid modelling software components. They offer a dynamic, stimulating and informal working environment in central Cambridge. This role is perfect for a numerate problem solver, with good hands-on skills, to take a fresh look at a problem and to understand and visualise the 3D algorithms involved. In addition to a good degree and/or PhD in a numerate subject (backed by excellent A-levels or equivalent) you should have proven algorithmic and numerical modelling skills. A good understanding of vector and matrix mathematics (for distances, angles, affine transforms) is important. Some exposure to 3D geometric modelling (edges, faces and vertices, or parametric surfaces) would be ideal.Although professional coding experience is not required (training can be provided) it is very likely that the right candidate will have a natural interest in computing and knowledge of coding – perhaps in Python, and ideally using C / C++ or similar. You must of course be able to demonstrate a natural aptitude and an appetite for a career in software development! At the more senior level, previous experience within CAD / CAM Software Development would be particularly relevant. In addition to a competitive salary and an attractive benefits package, the role offers excellent career development prospects for the right candidate. Remote or hybrid working may initially prove to be an option pending finalised working arrangements including time in the office in Cambridge.Key skills: vector mathematics, 3D maths, spatial thinking, problem solving, C or C++, 3D graphics, visualisation. Please note: even if you don’t have exactly the background indicated, do contact us now if this type of job is of interest – we may well have similar opportunities that you would be suited to. And of course, we always get your permission before submitting your CV to a company.
