Posted on behalf ofUKBICOur client, a leading Lithium-Ion Battery Manufacturing Technical Centre is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer. The successful candidate will work alongside a small but growing team of experienced Engineers in new product development and industrialisation of batteries and battery cells.The Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Review and/or creation of engineering drawings to BS/ISO8888 and co-ordinate cross-departmental review.
  • Support the creation of DFMEAs and PFMEAs by providing technical input as well as deliver on actions to de-risk customer designs.
  • Work with the Procurement and Electrochemistry departments and external suppliers to evaluate new technologies in cell components, materials, and manufacturing methods as well as any outsourcing activity in realising in-house designs.
  • Design for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFA) evaluations, for battery cells, modules, and packs.
  • Create product structuring, part numbering and BOMs.

The Mechanical Engineer will have:

  • 3+ years previous experience in the above accountabilities.
  • Excellent academic background with a Mechanical engineering degree at master’s Level (MSc, MEng or equivalent) with a minimum 2:1 award.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards (eg. IEC62133, UN38.3 etc…)
  • Direct experience of using Matlab, Minitab, ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL or equivalent tools.
  • Awareness of functional safety standards (eg. ISO26262, ISO13849 etc…)
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, BS/ISO8888, ISO9001.
  • Ability to demonstrate a good balance between attention to detail, as well as flexible and pragmatic in approach to problem solving.
