Position Summary:

The Technology Business Unit is looking for a graduate mechanical engineer to join the team. Reporting to the Practice Lead you will support projects globally based out of our Mississauga location.

Responsibilities: • Apply engineering principles and perform calculations for custom mechanical equipment, including thermal analysis of the linings of pyrometallurgical vessels, and fluid flow analysis of water and air-cooled systems

• Perform detailed design of custom mechanical systems used in proprietary Hatch smelting furnaces to maintain crucible integrity and life, deliver power and feed to the furnace, provide equipment sealing and environmental control, as well as molten product tapping and handling

• Assistance on 3D model preparation as well as drawing production

• Evaluate process alternatives and/or equipment/technology selection trade-off studies, including evaluation of suitable materials of construction

• Prepare equipment specification packages and technical project deliverables, reports and presentations

• Close collaboration with process, structural and electrical engineers and designers in the detailed design of custom equipment, including equipment design reviews, plant layout development and process hazard review studies

• Client and site support, including field verification during construction and vendor fabrication assistance

Education and Experience:

• Must be working towards graduating in 2024, or recently graduated, with a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Applied Science from an accredited university in the Mechanical Engineering program • Be eligible for registration as an EIT with a provincial engineering body upon graduation

• Excel academically while being actively involved in extra-curricular and/or volunteer activities at school or in the community

• Preferred academic courses include Solid Mechanics II, Advanced Momentum/ Heat and Mass Transfer, Control Systems, Machine Design, Structural Dynamics, Numerical Methods

• Willingness and ability to travel to project sites including remote sites

Competencies (knowledge, skill, attributes):

• Good understanding of engineering and business fundamentals as they apply to engineering problems and projects • Ability to learn quickly and driven to take on new challenges

• Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Demonstrated critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients’ toughest challenges
