In this role you will provide expert medical opinion for our Zurich Corporate Risk and Retail Protection business to support claim assessment guidance, assist with underwriting risk assessment, medical definition accuracy and relevance, the pricing of conditions and definitions covered under Zurich products.You will be using up to date knowledge of clinical practice and relevant clinical protocols to provide evidence based, evidence led, or evidence informed opinion. Whilst also conducting training for claims assessors and underwriters and provide UK Life with evidence- based medical insights and opportunities to support health thought-leadership both internally and, where appropriate, for wider discussions in the industry.Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part-time, flexible hours, job share, an element of working from home or compressed hours. - Provision of expert medical opinion across relevant business areas which include Claims, (with a focus on Income Protection) and Underwriting
- Contribute medical expertise in Product development, pricing strategies and risk mitigation measures
- Analyse the claims assessment process to optimise the review of claims from a medical perspective. This will include optimising the claims triaging process, the point at which medical opinion is sought, best practice medical management, and the use of external consultation.
- Optimise the use of rehabilitation services from a medical perspective. This will include the timing of rehabilitation opinion in case management
- Identify training needs particularly in the claims arena and partake in training programmes to upskill inhouse staff
- Support the development and insight provision of health data to relevant areas of the business
- Provide ongoing evidence- based health thought leadership newsletters and insights – both internally and externally upholding ethical standards and confidentiality
- Monitor the external environment, including any regulatory changes, and identify and assess the impacts of any changes needed to the claims journey, for example changes to Fit Note or certification of death processes
- Support and contribute to the various health initiatives across different customer and employee touchpoints including the review and identification of new health technology
- Initiate an area of research relevant to claims optimisation. Topic to be aligned with own particular interest and agreed to by relevant stakeholders
Who are we looking for?
- Qualified as a medical practitioner, ideally with registration with the General Medical Council in UK
- Substantial post qualification experience within a GP Practice
- Knowledge and understanding of the Financial Services industry or Insurance related products is preferable but not essential
- Experience in designing and delivering medical training programs is preferable
- Experience in communicating and liaising with treating and academic medical professionals
- Knowledge within medical areas, critical illnesses or specific occupational health and wellbeing themes to support pricing and product initiatives
- Sound decision-making, influencing, and relationship management skills
- Experience working across a diverse team with necessary stakeholder management skills
- Working knowledge of the UK Financial services industry regulations
- Experience in the Life Insurance/Protection industry or Private Health/Medical Insurance industry is preferable
- Superior oral and written coaching and presentation skills
- Well established people leadership and development skills
