Your Opportunity:Access Mental Health is a single point of contact for community-based addiction and mental health services in the Calgary Zone. The addiction and mental health population served through this centralized access includes children, adolescents, families and adults. The Mental Health clinician reports to the program manager and is tasked with helping clients navigate the health care system and connecting them with the most appropriate care options available. The role of the mental health clinician includes: receiving calls from the public, addressing the clinical needs at hand and providing appropriate information, options and/or referral. While the Access Mental Health service is not structured as a crisis line, the Mental Health Clinician will need a wide personal skill set, as any member of the public may reach out for help. This clinical role is a part of a multidisciplinary team that works in an integrated and collaborative way with other registered social workers, nurses, psychologists and occupational therapists. More specifically, the Mental Health Clinician needs to be comfortable providing advice in a non-face-to-face fashion, largely independently. Further, they need to be skilled in active listening, and typing while being spoken to.Description:As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.
Required Qualifications:Completion of one of the following programs: a Master’s degree in Psychology, a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college. Additional Required Qualifications:REQUIRED EDUCATION: Completion of a recognized post-secondary program in a health-related field. Must hold current full registration with a regulated professional body under the Health Professions Act. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years directly related experience working in the addiction and mental health field. Community and crisis experience. Strong knowledge of addiction and mental health disorders across populations and experience in using the DSM-V diagnostic system. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Strong working knowledge of the addiction and mental health system and resources within AHS Calgary Zone and related resources in the Calgary community. Strong critical thinking, assessment, and intervention skills including crisis intervention skills. Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations with varying levels of acuity and a heterogeneous client population. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to effectively liaison with various professionals. Ability to work confidently, independently and within collaborative partnerships. Ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a timely manner. Proficiency in computer use, data entry and navigation. Ability to work in a sedentary job.
