British Geological SurveyMINERALS COMMODITY ANALYSTGrade: UKRI Pay Band D/S2Salary: D/S2 salary is £41,344 to £45,479 (depending on skills and experience)A including an outstanding pension scheme (with a very generous employer contribution – on average 27% of your pay), 30 days annual leave plus bank holidaysContract Type: PermanentHours: Full-time – 37 hours a week (some flexible working options may be available, including a small amount of remote working, but this role does require regular onsite attendance)Location: BGS headquarters in Keyworth in NottinghamClosing date: Monday 13 January 2025About the roleWorking with a small team of experts on data compilation, intelligence gathering and analysis on global and UK minerals markets, this is an exciting opportunity to take on a key role in the UK Critical Minerals Intelligence Centre (CMIC).Based within the BGS Decarbonisation and Resource Management (DRM) challenge area, the CMIC supports the UK in securing the adequate and timely supply of the minerals and metals it requires to ensure the success of the net zero transition, mitigate risks to national security, deliver economic prosperity and build opportunities for UK businesses in critical mineral supply chains domestically and internationally.This role is directly involved in providing decision makers in government, industry and civil society with independent, robust, up-to-date, and future-orientated market analysis and intelligence to manage the dynamic risks associated with the supply and demand of critical minerals.The role also assists with our broader analysis of the life cycle and value chains of a wider range of mineral and metal commodities, including monitoring stocks and flows, analysis of supply and demand relationships, and assessment of the security of supply of all mineral raw materials for the UK economy. This may include contributing to our long-running World Mineral Statistics project and to other research programmes both in the UK and overseas.About youDo you have familiarity with minerals markets, collection of associated data and analysis of their dynamics and complexities? Knowledge of the concepts of stocks and flows of minerals and associated products would be advantageous.The successful applicant will also assist with the development of new research ideas and funding opportunities, establishment of partnerships with other parts of BGS, academia and industry. They will also be involved in answering enquiries related to our minerals commodity data and analysis and engage with external partners.The postholder will be expected to show initiative and manage their own time. They may lead some projects and tasks where you will be responsible for coordinating a project team, monitoring resources and ensuring delivery of relevant outputs.Please note – you will be required to have the appropriate level of security screening/vetting required for the role.
