Our team is passionate about crafting seamless and innovative experiences within the Manulife Mobile application to meet the evolving needs of our users. We are currently seeking a dedicated Mobile Engineering Manager to lead our team of iOS and Android engineers.
In this role, you will drive the development of new integrations and enhance the performance and stability of Mobile app, specifically for our Group Benefits and Canadian Retirement plan members.
How will you create impact?
Collaborating with the Director of Engineering; you will work closely with the mobile team, product managers, and other multi-functional teams. This role plays a part in shaping the user experience and functionality of the Manulife Mobile application. You will contribute to the ongoing success and growth of our mobile platform, directly impacting our user base and overall business objectives. The work of this role will help drive innovation and ensure that our mobile applications remain at the forefront of technology and user satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
Lead and manage a team of mobile engineers, including hiring, mentoring/coaching, performance management, and setting goals/expectations.
Foster a collaborative and engaging team environment through effective communication and team-building activities.
Identify and address skill gaps within the team by providing training, mentorship, and opportunities for professional development to ensure ongoing skill enhancement and career growth.
Supervise the on-call team, providing leadership and acting as the primary contact for critical issues to ensure timely and effective resolution.
Design and Development Oversight:
Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of the Manulife Mobile Android and iOS applications.
Ensure alignment to industry practices, coding standards, and design patterns to maintain high-quality code.
Review and approve code changes, ensuring constructive feedback is provided to maintain code quality and consistency.
Mobile Security:
Ensure compliance with industry security standards and regulations.
Oversee the utilization of encryption techniques to protect sensitive data both at rest and in transit.
Conduct regular security audits to identify and mitigate potential security risks.
Collaborate with security teams to address vulnerabilities raised through penetration testing and ensure ongoing security improvements.
Project Management:
Facilitate agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Assess and prioritize work based on urgency, impact, and alignment with organizational goals.
Efficiently allocate resources and assign tasks to team members, ensuring optimal use of skills and expertise.
Monitor team workload and capacity to ensure balanced distribution of tasks and prevent burnout.
Incident Management:
Lead the incident management process, including identification, prioritization, and resolution of production issues.
Coordinate and communicate with relevant partners during incident resolution, ensuring timely updates and transparency.
Oversee investigations into root cause analysis for major incidents and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Technical Guidance:
Lead the team to deliver on non-functional requirements and acquire necessary approvals on documentation (architecture, risk approvals, support handovers).
Lead disaster recovery activities to ensure the organization can quickly recover from any unexpected events and maintain business continuity.
Direct the management and enhancement of observability tools and platforms, ensuring they deliver actionable insights and facilitate proactive incident management.
Lead performance tuning initiatives by analyzing system performance metrics and logs to identify potential bottlenecks, performance issues, and areas for improvement, driving optimal system efficiency and reliability.
What we are looking for:
Experience in leading and managing a team of engineers.
Proven experience in building native mobile applications either on iOS or Android.
Strong understanding of mobile security best practices and experience implementing security features.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Proven track record of successfully delivering mobile applications from concept to deployment.
Experience working in an agile development environment.

Salary range is expected to be between
$92,190.00 CAD – $171,210.00 CAD
