Native Oyster Project Officer

Dive into Restoration

The Tees Rivers Trust are spear-heading efforts to restore native habitat and species in the Tees Estuary. We now have an opportunity for a passionate, practical, ambitious and experienced marine scientist to help us in this mission and shape the future of this work in the Tees.

What you’ll be doing

Working as part of our friendly, expert team, you’ll play a hands-on role in delivering a pioneering programme focused on species reintroduction, habitat creation and estuary restoration. From building oyster reefs to checking nurseries and monitoring environmental conditions, no two days will be the same.

You’ll be right at the heart of our oyster restoration work, including:

  • Coordinating native oyster restoration across the Tees Estuary
  • Identifying and surveying suitable restoration sites
  • Monitoring oyster nurseries, spatting facilities and environmental parameters
  • Activating, monitoring and reporting on oyster spatting operations

Expect a role that’s dynamic, practical and deeply rewarding — with plenty of opportunities to learn and collaborate.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who:

  • Is an enthusiastic team player
  • Has demonstrable experience delivering environmental, conservation, or habitat-focused projects
  • A passion for nature-based solutions and estuarine ecosystems
  • Confidence carrying out field surveys and scientific monitoring
  • Great organisational skills and a “let’s get stuck in” attitude

If you’re passionate about estuary restoration and keen to grow your experience in a positive, collaborative environment, this role could be a great fit.
