My client, a world leader in missiles and missile systems for the defence sector, requires a Navigation Algorithm Design Engineer to join them in Bristol and work as part of a team to develop, research, test and evaluate navigation algorithms that integrate into a wider complex weapon solution.The Navigation Algorithm Design Engineer will be part of the dynamic Guidance, Control and Navigation Department, which offers opportunity to work across a range of research activities and impact multiple areas of delivery.Navigation algorithms are central to the design and development of complex guided weapon systems products and are developed at many stages of the lifecycle of the product including:
- Research studies, both externally and internally funded, to investigate algorithms for future developments.
- Algorithms to support initial missile feasibility and concept studies.
- Algorithms in support of assessment and development programmes.
- Algorithms to support upgrades for in-service products.
This role offers the chance to gain in-depth knowledge of the design and functionality of complex weapon systems through your model development work and an understanding of how GCN supports weapon system products, giving you an insight into a number of related disciplines.To be considered for this role, applicants will need to be well qualified (ideally to PhD level but strong degrees will also be considered) in a subject with strong mathematical content e.g. Aerospace Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics. You will also need to have relevant industrial experience and strong programming skills including MATLAB.You will have previous demonstrable experience, or a strong academic interest in, programming, real-time implementation, validation & verification and navigation. Experience with the state-of-the-arts navigation algorithms, Navigation Algorithm design, comparative evaluation and testing would be an advantage.Navigation Algorithm Design Engineer
