Our Chalk River location is looking for a Nuclear Operator Trainee to support work within the Universal Cells Facility for our Licensed Nuclear Facilities department. • Remotely handling of radioactive materials in a shielded hot cell environment.
• Operating overhead cranes and hoists.
• Operating facility systems, recording, and monitoring readings.
• Responding to alarms and upset conditions.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

• Education

• Successful completion of secondary school (Grade 12) advanced level with four (4) Academic Credits in Math, Chemistry, Physics and English or the equivalent in education and/or experience.
• A technical diploma is an asset.
• Experience

• Direct experience in operations or an industrial work environment is an asset.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to wear PPE&C; in particular, wearing a respirator will be required for some aspects of the job.
• Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
• Must possess sound judgement and communication skills (oral and written).
• Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergencies or unusual or hazardous conditions.
• General knowledge of process, mechanical, and electrical system operations, as well as maintenance practices.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required

• Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

• Manual dexterity and depth perception are required to perform remote handling of radioactive materials.
• Must be able to use a respirator.
• Frequent monitoring is necessary; security checkpoints are part of daily routine.
• A daily commute by foot from the parking lot to the work area is required.
• Work in moderate radiation hazard environments where personal protective equipment is required.
• As a safety requirement, the environment demands high vigilance to alarms, lights, and signals.
