Be part of a team of people that grows careers and trees for our future forests!Job DescriptionA Day in the Life:PRT is seeking a full-time Forest Seedling Nursery Manager to be based in Beaverlodge, AB at PRT Beaverlodge. Leading the local management team, you will have the opportunity to work with the most innovative conifer seedling producer in the industry with a focus on our people, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement ensuring our Strategy execution is successfully aligned with operational plans and performance. As an accountable leader and proactive Manager, you will oversee all aspects of greenhouse and open compound seedling production and lead an experienced team that takes pride in being the ultimate best in producing exceptional results for our customers. Your focus will include financial management, personnel development and leadership, continuous improvement activities, customer focus, overall site safety, and promotion of PRT. The driving force of implementation and execution of PRT’s Strategy is rooted in the personal core values of stewardship and safe-guarding of the well-being for our People, Customers, Assets, Environment, and Capital.Key Accountabilities of the Forest Seedling Nursery Manager:

  • Ensure adherence to organizational health and safety programs through routine management, review, and follow-up procedures
  • Develop and prioritize proposals for capital expenditures and projects
  • Manage and supervise container seedling production
  • Create production target plans
  • Implement crop and work plans
  • Identify and assess crop damage, losses and reliability issues
  • Perform root-cause analysis with nursery personnel and develop solutions
  • Keep neat and accurate records
  • Manage labor force
  • Identify training needs
  • Mentor, coach, and train nursery personnel
  • Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements
  • Correspond with customers
  • Follow and enforce safe work practices
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement
  • Promote collaboration and teamwork at all levels
  • Set targets (i.e., production, timelines) and evaluate achievement

About the team:The Forest Seedling Nursery Manager will report to a Regional Manager.QualificationsEnough about us, let’s talk about you:Required/Minimum Qualifications & Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five or more years of horticulture or crop production experience
  • Dynamic leadership skills with the ability to plan, train and coach staff
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Proficient understanding of production processes, quality control principles, and safety regulations
  • Strong planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, think strategically, conduct a root cause analysis and make data-driven decisions
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Robust computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work, Outlook)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with financial data including developing budgets and financial analysis

Additional or Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Knowledge or experience with continuous process improvement in a production environment
