UNICEF Ethiopia Country Office is looking for an internationally experienced, dynamic, results-driven, and motivated individual to be the output lead for the Prevention and Treatment of Wasting and Humanitarian Action in the Nutrition Section. The incumbent will be responsible for developing, preparing, and managing complex, key, and integrated nutrition programmes within the UNICEF Ethiopia Country Programme. If your experience, qualification, and personal competencies matches this announcement, please submit your candidature for this vacancy.
UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.
Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.
And we never give up.
For every child, a chance to Survive and Thrive!
UNICEF Ethiopia supports the government’s Food and Nutrition Policy and Strategy to implement programmes and large-scale interventions to significantly reduce all forms of malnutrition among the most vulnerable groups: young children, school-going children, adolescents, and pregnant and lactating women.
Natural events such as droughts and floods usually trigger food insecurity in Ethiopia, where over 85 per cent of the population is dependent on rain-fed subsistence agriculture and livestock husbandry, resulting in an increased number of children with acute malnutrition. To mitigate and manage nutrition shocks, UNICEF works with the government’s disaster risk management and food security sector, regional authorities and other partners to deliver coordinated preparedness and response and refine emergency and response plans.
Over the last few years, UNICEF has supported care for acutely malnourished children in over 20,000 facilities across the country in over 1000 woredas while leading the emergency nutrition response at national and sub-national levels. UNICEF will continue to carry out these roles in the current and future Country Programmes as it aligns with UNICEF Global Nutrition strategy 2020 to 2030.
