Working for Pembina means working safely.Overview:Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Corporate Calgary Office is recruiting a Director, Occupational Health and Safety to join the team. This position reports to the Vice President, Safety in the External Affairs Division (EAD). The leadership of EAD works collaboratively to develop and execute long-range goals, strategies, and plans in service of Pembina’s values and strategy. In collaboration with Pembina’s Canadian and US operations, projects and service units, this role will ensure effective implementation and continuous improvement of Pembina’s Safety Program, a key focus area of Pembina’s Operations Excellence Management System (OEMS).The Director, Occupational Health and Safety is a strategic and trusted leader responsible for ensuring that Pembina’s Safety Program is effectively implemented and designed to enable all Pembina’s assets can work within Pembina’s Values, Health, Safety and Environment Policy, strategy and regulatory requirements.Pembina’s Safety Service Unit is part of the External Affairs Division, (EAD). Safety Culture – Zero by Choice, the Safety Service Unit is dedicated to delivering quality products and services by leading the enterprise-wide occupational health and safety, process safety, physical security, and emergency management programs, insurance program and Operations Management System governance. The Safety team ensures compliance with all company, federal and local government health, safety, security and emergency management regulations and requirements ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for our employees, contractors, and communities.Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Develop tactics and KPIs for safety and corporate strategy;
  • Enhance safety performance reporting, data analytics, and AI tool;
  • Set occupational health and safety goals with various units;
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and continuous safety program improvement;
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Support safety aspects of acquisition transactions;
  • Lead safety culture initiatives for employees and contractors;
  • Lead a multi-jurisdictional safety team to achieve objectives;
  • Foster talent through coaching, mentoring, and development;
  • Represent the Safety Program in Pembina’s OEMS governance;
  • Determine resources for the department;
  • Participate in internal committees and industry associations;
  • Contribute to organizational strategy and build commitment;
  • Drive continuous improvement and productivity initiatives;
  • Align department strategy with corporate goals;
  • Advise on strategic plans with the VP Safety;
  • Build collaborative relationships across the organization;
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace;
  • Mentor leaders and team members in the Safety Department; and
  • Model accountability and adhere to Pembina’s Values: Safe, Trustworthy, Respectful, Collaborative and Entrepreneurial.

Qualifications:

  • 20+ years of progressive and relevant safety experience with combined with 10+ years in a senior leadership role managing teams in a multi-jurisdictional environment
  • Degree in the Health and Safety field or a CRSP or CSP designation
  • Up-to-date working knowledge of federal and provincial/state legislation and related governmental and industry health and safety requirements
  • Working knowledge of North American midstream and marketing infrastructure operations and construction is preferred
  • Strong understanding of Process Safety concepts would be considered an asset
  • Active listener & strong diplomacy skills; adept at understanding competing agendas, influencing diverse audiences and rapidly moving issues forward in a constructive manner
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and team-building skills, and able to function effectively in a high pressure, fast-paced environment
  • Resilient, collaborative, and goal oriented
  • Committed to continuously act in a safe, environmentally and socially conscientious manner to maintain the dependability, integrity, and safety of Pembina’s people, assets, and physical infrastructure; and
  • Ability to travel occasionally is required.

This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” and so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing which includes testing for marijuana metabolites. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Calgary, AB. CA.Pembina’s Flexible Work Standard provides the option for eligible employees to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position.
