The successful candidate will also be appointed as McGill University Director of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology. The professorial rank will be determined according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine. The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH.The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology is a clinically strong group that offers the full range of rheumatology care to children and adolescents. With the addition of a new Division Director, there will be 4 full time and 2 part-time members with academic strengths in multiple fields including medical education, research, advocacy, and health services delivery. The division is supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes administrative assistants, specialized nursing staff, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work and psychology. The Division has an active, fully accredited Royal College Pediatric Rheumatology residency program, one of only 3 in Canada and the sole program in Quebec.Job DutiesThe successful candidate will be appointed as the McGill University Director of the Division of Rheumatology at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH), McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and will be expected to share equally on call duties with other full time members. Academic clinicians are expected to cover the consultation service ~13 weeks per year (including night and weekend call), and hold 2-3 half-day outpatient clinics per week. All rheumatologists are also expected to participate in all clinical and administrative division meetings.Administrative duties as Division Director are expected to require approximately 15% effort. The successful candidate will be expected to lead the Division in its clinical and academic missions in addition to contributing as a full member of the Division of Rheumatology. Specific responsibilities of the Division Director include: 1) fostering the professional development of division members; 2) ensuring smooth operations of the division, including ensuring coverage of the clinical services and communication within the division between physicians, nurses, allied health, and administrative staff; 3) ensuring delivery of the academic mission, including promoting research and providing a safe learning environment; (4) ensuring that regular educational activities take place in the division; (5) recruitment of physicians to the division; (6) managing divisional finances and working with administrative and nursing managers to ensure appropriate staffing in rheumatology, and; (7) representing the division of rheumatology at the level of the Department of Pediatrics.Research and other academic activities are encouraged and supported. Supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows in the course of clinical care is mandatory and participation in the pediatric rheumatology training program is expected. Physicians in the Division of Rheumatology are also expected to contribute to our interdisciplinary education mission, supporting the education and professional development of nurses and nurse practitioners. All faculty in the Department of Pediatrics are expected to participate in formal teaching to residents and undergraduate medical students.The successful academic clinician candidate will be expected to divide their time as follows:1) Clinical Service (0.65- 0.75 FTE):The focus of clinical work will be in Pediatric Rheumatology as outlined above;2) Administration of the Division (0.15 FTE);3)Education/Research/Other Academic Commitments (0.1- 0.2 FTE):Participation in departmental and divisional academic activities such as research, teaching, quality improvement, and program development is required.The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community.
