Given this context, the faculty in the Department of History, Politics, and Social Justice invites applications for an open rank nine-month tenure-track Professor of Political Science in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education with a start date of August 2025. This position also has the potentialof an Endowed Distinguished Professorship for a distinguished candidate with extensive scholarship, grantsmanship, and an excellent teaching portfolio.Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses, serving as a faculty advisor, mentoring and coaching students inside and outside the classroom; coordinator of the Political Science major; and producing scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals within the discipline area or within peer-reviewed journals that promote the teaching and learning of the discipline; facilitating presentations at well-respected professional conferences; engaging in the procurement of extramural funds with interdisciplinary teams; participating in departmental, College, and university service as well as engaging in service to one’s professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County community.

Preferred Years Experience,Skills, Training , Education : 

Candidates must possess the following requirements for consideration:

  • Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Political Science or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college/university, postdoctoral or equivalent research experience, and the potential for attracting extramural funding.
  • Candidates must have at least two years of teaching and/or industry training experience in political science topics in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars.
  • Candidates must possess effective written and verbal communication skills, and they must illustrate effective interpersonal skills.
  • Candidates must demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively across our undergraduate degree programs in Political Science, History, and Justice Studies with colleagues to develop and expand cross-disciplinary course offerings and enhance co-curricular programs.
