Context:
Since the inception of IOM in 1951, Operations have been and continue to be a fundamental pillar of the Organization’s work. The organized movement of persons in need of international migration assistance is a primary mandate of the Organization and a cornerstone of IOM’s operations. This mandate has resulted in the international transport of more than 15 million migrants and refugees worldwide. Operations Units in various IOM Country Offices, coordinated under the Department of Operations and Emergencies (DOE) at IOM’s Geneva Headquarters (HQ), are responsible for all aspects of travel for migrants and refugees under IOM’s auspices, in accordance with the various framework agreements with resettlement and receiving Governments and partners across the spectrum of the Organization’s program.
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Operations Assistant, the incumbent is responsible for undertaking Operations activities within the Afghan Assistance Programme.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Assist the coordination of assistance at transit centers, including registration, identity verification, distribution of essentials, and room assignments.
- Support the Operations Officer in coordinating transportation and escorting assistance for beneficiaries to their accommodations, ensuring timely execution.
- Assist in ensuring that individuals with special needs receive appropriate support, including assistive devices/equipment.
- In coordination with the Operations Officer, schedule shifts and promptly address any issues that arise during beneficiaries’ stay at the transit center.
- Demonstrate good knowledge and understanding of program SOPs and maintaining professionalism and impartiality in all interactions.
- Maintain and ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all relevant paperwork in line with standards of conduct and data protection rules.
- Work with the team to collect and incorporate guest feedback into operations, aiming to continuous improvement.
- Provide regular feedback to the Operations Officer and promptly informing supervisors of any issues requiring attention.
- In coordination with the Operations Officer, evaluate flexible working hours during the evening shift to accommodate the needs of the program and beneficiaries.
- Perform any other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the Program.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited academic institution* with three years of relevant professional experience, or
- High School diploma in a related field with five years of relevant professional experience
Experience
- Minimum of three years of experience in humanitarian assistance or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to provide support to individuals with special needs, including the provision of assistive devices/equipment.
- Attention to detail and ability to organize.
- Prior experience working with youth or on protection-related issues is a distinct advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision

Skills
- Strong computer skills – Word, Excel, and Internet.
- Administration skills.
Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.
REQUIRED
For this position, fluency in English is required
DESIRABLE
Working knowledge of Pashto/Dari/Arabic is desirable.
