Job Purpose Summary

NatureScot is Scotland’s Nature Agency, protecting and restoring nature, and inspiring everyone
to value our natural world. In this role you will contribute to NatureScot’s vision for a
nature-rich future for Scotland by encouraging action to protect, restore and value nature as
part of the National Operations Team.

There are three positions available focusing on the Firth of Forth, the Inverness and Cromarty
Firth and Orkney and northern Scotland respectively. The Firth of Forth and Inverness and
Cromarty posts are full time while the Orkney and northern Scotland post is 17.5 hours per
week.

Your role will focus on working in a team to deliver NatureScot’s development
advice in relation to coastal and marine development. In particular this will involve working
with the regulating authorities and wider stake holders for either the Forth Green Freeport,
Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Free Port, or coastal infrastructure projects in Orkney and
northern Scotland. You will be providing advice on the implications for Scotland’s nature
resulting from coastal infrastructure developments in these locations.

Training and mentoring will be provided on the technical aspects of the post. The liaison with
and the co-ordinating of advice from our specialist advisers will be an integral aspect of the
role.

Areas of responsibility

  • Advise consenting authorities on the implications of port and harbour development proposals
    for protected areas on the coast and in the marine environment.
  • Act as NatureScot’s lead on either the Forth Green Freeport or Inverness and Cromarty Firth
    Green Free Port.
  • Co-ordinate internal advice in relation to port and harbour development.
  • Seek opportunities and delivery of positive enhancements for biodiversity within the
    relevant Green Free Port or coastal area.
  • Represent NatureScot in partnerships and with local stakeholders.
