General objective of the position:

The ophthalmologist will be working in collaboration with a secretary responsible for appointment scheduling, referrals, and administrative duties. Our clinic is equipped with essential diagnostic and treatment equipment including an ophthalmological chair, slit lamp, tonometer, autorefractor, keratometer, phoropter, and lensometer.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

Deliverables:

1. Access to Comprehensive Eye Examinations: Our ophthalmologists conduct thorough eye examinations for patients of all ages, ensuring that each individual receives a comprehensive assessment of their visual health, including assessments for refractive errors, eye diseases, and other ocular conditions.
2. Timely Diagnostics and Treatment: Utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques, such as slit lamps, tonometry, autorefraction, keratometry, and phoropters, our ophthalmologists promptly diagnose eye conditions and develop tailored treatment plans to address the specific needs of each patient.
3. Screening and Management of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): We screen patients with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, for potential eye-related complications, such as diabetic retinopathy and hypertensive retinopathy, and provide appropriate management and follow-up care.
4. Prescription and Provision of Eyewear: For patients requiring corrective eyewear, our ophthalmologists prescribe and provide glasses or contact lenses, ensuring improved visual acuity and quality of life for individuals with refractive errors with taking into Consideration the unique challenges of the Za’atari camp setting, where resources may be limited and access to specialized tools and treatments may be restricted.
5. Referral Coordination and Collaboration: In cases where specialized care or surgical interventions are required, our ophthalmologists facilitate referrals to SAMS Medical Mission Project Team and collaborate with other healthcare providers within the camp and external specialists to ensure timely access to appropriate medical interventions and services.
6. Patient Education and Empowerment: We educate patients on their eye conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures, empowering them to actively participate in their eye care and adopt healthy behaviors to protect and preserve their vision.
7. Regular Monitoring and Follow-Up: Our ophthalmologists provide ongoing monitoring and follow-up care to track the progress of treatment interventions, address any concerns or complications, and ensure optimal visual outcomes and patient satisfaction.
8. Maintaining Accurate and Complete Patient Medical Records: Our ophthalmologists diligently maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient encounter. This includes documenting relevant medical history, examination findings, diagnostic test results, treatment plans, and follow-up recommendations to ensure continuity of care.
9. Timely Completion of Reports: Our ophthalmologists promptly generate necessary reports summarizing patient evaluations, treatment outcomes, and recommendations.
10. Adherence to Infection Control Procedures: At SAMS, our ophthalmologists follow rigorous infection control protocols recommended by global health organizations and regulatory agencies. This includes thorough hand hygiene practices, proper sterilization of instruments and equipment, and adherence to standard precautions to minimize the risk of infection transmission.
11. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Usage: Our ophthalmologists wear appropriate PPE, including gloves, masks, goggles, and gowns, as necessary, to protect themselves and others from potential exposure to infectious agents. PPE usage is mandatory during all patient interactions and procedures to ensure the highest level of safety for both patients and healthcare providers.

Target:

1. Patient Volume: Our goal is to see and provide care to a minimum of 25 patients per day, for a total of 8 days per month, ensuring efficient use of resources and maximizing access to eye care services for the refugee population.
2. Patient Satisfaction and Engagement: Through patient feedback mechanisms and surveys, we strive to maintain a patient satisfaction rate of 80% or higher, ensuring that our services meet the needs and expectations of our diverse patient population.
3. Participation in Medical Missions: The ophthalmologist should participate in all three Medical Missions of SAMS annually, collaborating with the other participating ophthalmologists.

THE CANDIDATE’S REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory Qualifications required

• University degree in medical background Ophthalmology

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in Human Resources

Languages

• Fluent written and spoken in Arabic

• Intermediate written and spoken English

Competencies:

• Excellent written interpersonal communication skills.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (word, excel, PowerPoint).
