Applications are invited from enthusiastic candidates for the post of Research Fellow based at the Department of Orthopaedics, Golden Jubilee University National Hospital. These posts are suitable for qualified doctors at any stage of training, who are seeking experience in an established research environment. An interest in orthopaedic surgery is desirableThe post-holder will be actively involved in the planning, design, organisation, performance, analysis and dissemination of musculoskeletal-related research. This includes self-selected projects or those allocated by the Orthopaedic Research Team. The unit has an established academic link to the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and with the University of Glasgow, offering the potential for both clinical and laboratory-based projects and registration for a higher degree. In addition, the hospital has a state-of-the-art motion analysis laboratory for research purposes.The post will also include regular clinical duties, contributing to the 1 in 7 day time ward rota and the 1 in 12 hospital at night rota. There will be the opportunity to attend orthopaedic elective theatre lists and to work with high volume surgeons in one of the largest lower limb arthroplasty centres in the UK.The post is for a fixed term of 12 months in the first instance and will start in August 2025 but can be extended to 24 months if appropriate. Fellows who undertake this post during Higher Surgical Training may have it recognised as out of programme research (OOPR) with retention of their NTN.
