Naturebytes is an award-winning non-profit reconnecting people with nature in exciting
new ways. We blend environmental education, hands-on technology, and outdoor adventure to help
communities rediscover the wild spaces around them. From seal surveys to building wildlife
cameras and digital storytelling, our projects empower young people to take climate and
conservation action while developing confidence, digital skills, and wellbeing.

Our small, dynamic team of educators, technologists, and conservationists collaborates
with tech companies, national parks, schools, families, and youth organisations to break down
barriers to environmental access and changemaking. We are currently expanding our offer in East
Sussex and developing a flagship Naturebytes Hub at the Seven Sisters Country Park.

About the
Role

We’re looking for a passionate and dynamic Outdoor Education Leader to deliver our
Active Nature programme – a newly funded initiative offering free outdoor sessions for 12-16
year olds in East Sussex. The programme combines hiking, wildlife exploration, digital tools,
and conservation activities to increase physical activity, wellbeing, and nature connection
among young people. 

You’ll lead inspiring weekly sessions, support local volunteers, and work closely with
schools and project partners. Based at two beautiful reserves—Hastings Country Park and Seven
Sisters Country Park—you’ll help participants explore, move more, and build confidence in
nature. 

This role is ideal for someone with experience in outdoor learning, youth work, or
environmental education who is confident leading diverse groups and committed to inclusive
practice.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging weekly outdoor sessions every Saturday (10am–2pm), alternating
  between Hastings and Seven Sisters.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
• Incorporate a mix of hiking, digital tools (e.g. trail cams, wildlife ID apps),
  conservation tasks, and mindfulness.
• Liaise with schools, youth services, and referral partners to recruit and support
  participants.
• Train, coordinate, and mentor local volunteers.
• Maintain and manage programme equipment and resources.
• Gather feedback and track attendance to evaluate impact.
• Attend quarterly steering group meetings to review progress.
• Act as a local ambassador for Naturebytes and strengthen relationships with partner
  organisations.

Person Specification

Essential

• Experience delivering outdoor or environmental education sessions with young people.
• Confident and enthusiastic group leader, especially in natural settings.
• Experience supporting young people facing challenges such as low income or SEND.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Committed to safeguarding, equity, and inclusion.
• Self-starter able to plan and deliver sessions with limited supervision.
• Comfortable working outdoors year-round, including in poor weather.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
• First Aid qualification (or willingness to train).

Desirable

• Familiarity with East Sussex outdoor spaces and youth networks.
• Experience using digital nature tools (e.g. iNaturalist, Seek, trail cameras).
• Knowledge of mental wellbeing approaches or trauma-informed practice.

Full UK driving licence and access to transport.
