The Organisation

The Royal Parks (TRP) is a charity created in March 2017. We manage over 5,000 acres of diverse
parkland, rare habitats and historic buildings and monuments in eight Royal Parks across
London. These are Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, The Green Park, St James’s Park, The Regent’s
Park and Primrose Hill, Greenwich Park, Richmond Park and Bushy Park.

We also manage other important public spaces including Brompton Cemetery and Victoria Tower
Gardens. Our eight Royal Parks and other iconic green spaces are among the most visited
attractions in the UK with 77 million visits every year.

We are now looking for a Park Officer to join us on a full-time, permanent basis, working 36
hours per week at Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery. One day per week will be based at
Brompton Cemetery, with the remainder of time located at Kensington Gardens. The successful
candidate may be required to take part in a four-weekly rota for duty management purposes.

in-depth understanding of horticulture, landscape management or conservation to step into an

Kensington Gardens and Brompton Cemetery are both Grade 1 Listed landscapes being rich in
heritage and history. Dating back to 1689, Kensington Gardens is home to the hugely popular
Diana Memorial Playground, the Albert Memorial, the Italian Gardens and Serpentine Galleries,
as well as Kensington Palace. Brompton Cemetery is one of London’s Victorian Garden Cemeteries,
opened in 1840 and is still a working cemetery today containing a café and visitor centre. Both
sites are managed to very high standards providing horticultural delight and a rich tapestry of
habitats for wildlife.

The Role

As a Park Officer, you will assist in the management of a range of technical, operational and
service-related park functions supporting the continual improvement of Kensington Gardens and
Brompton Cemetery.

Working closely with the Park Manager, Assistant Park Manager and Cemetery Manager, you will
ensure excellent presentation and contribute to providing a high-quality, safe, well-maintained
park and cemetery for our visitors.

You will support all day-to-day park operations, be responsible for one-off park projects and
support other internal teams including biodiversity, learning, visitor services and
volunteering, through your collaborative engaging approach.

Additionally, you will:

  • Review signage and interpretive public relation materials
  • Assist in the management of our natural areas
  • Undertake water quality testing and monitoring
  • Assist with the selection and procurement of services, materials and equipment
  • Support campaigns and programmes including the Apprenticeship Scheme and Green Flag
  • Assist in the management of small events, filming and photography

About You

To be considered as a Park Officer, you will need:

  • Experience of managing publicly accessible places such as parks, gardens, open spaces or
    nature reserves in compliance with relevant legislation and health & safety practices
  • An understanding of the importance of parks within an urban setting and how they contribute
    to health, well-being and quality of life
  • A Level 2 qualification (or equivalent experience) in Horticulture, Landscape Management,
    Conservation or another land-based sector
