MSF France has had a significance presence in Kenya since 1996. In Homa Bay, MSF France supports the HBCTRH in the adult medical (in-patient and TB) wards to improve management of adults’ patients hospitalized, as well as managing chronic disease activities in 2 decentralized sites.
MSF France in Homa Bay is looking to fill the position of Patient Support Supervisor. The successful candidate report to the Project Medical Team Leader.
Main purpose of the Position:
In close collaboration with the Medical Team leader, supervise the implementation of patient support activities, according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures to empower the patient with knowledge of the diseases and treatments in Homabay Hospital-MSF supported wards and NCD treatment sites.
Tasks & Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Assisting the Medical Team Leader in assessing the patient support needs, defining the patient support strategy according to the changing medical needs and context, and developing patient support tools (counselling/education protocols, health promotion messages, etc.)
- Ensuring, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of patient support activities according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures
- Ensuring good communication and collaboration with the other components of the project and other partners working on patient support
- Supervising and supporting the staff under his/her responsibility in planning and organizing their work
- In close collaboration with the HR department, supervising the associated HR processes (recruitment, training, induction, evaluation, potential detection, coaching, development and internal communication) to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required
- Ensuring of data collection and analysis of patient support activities (collecting reports of patient support staff, summarizing reports, etc.)
- In collaboration with the Medical Team Leader, participate in the definition of social work strategy in Homa-Bay project as well as its implementation.
- Overview of the case management of Social Workers, technically, as well as coordinating and supporting complex case management tasks that require further collaboration within MSF or externally (e.g.: protection cases). Especially those involving security or representing safety risks (report and discuss with hierarchy those late ones).
- Ensure Social workers foster the active participation of patients in the decision regarding their health and social situation.
- Support social workers in the activities related to patient’s information and enrollment related to SHA
- Supporting monitoring and actively maintaining the mapping of social services and relevant actors in context level (typology, scope, criteria, response).
- Contribute to bringing multidisciplinary way of working among the two teams under his/her supervision but also with the other teams of the project
- Conduct weekly meetings with the teams to ensure organization and quality of work, as well as case supervision meetings, to ensure the good conduction of social interventions towards patients and patient education.
- Organize and maintain storage and management of social work documents and tools in a way to ensure data protection.
- Ensure patient safeguarding principles including confidentiality, do no harm, prevention of abuse are upheld by the team.

- Due to the nature of MSF, other duties and/or tasks may be requested in line with the position’s profile.May be requested to work on public Holidays and weekends.

Qualifications & Requirements:
Education : University degree in counselling/social sciences/educational sciences/social work
Knowledge & Experience Minimum -3 years of previous professional experience as a social worker, counsellor, psychologist or related field with relevant experience (e.g case management, patient education etc)
Essential: Demonstrable experience (Minimum 1 year) supervising and training others in a team setting
Desirable: Experience with MSF or other NGOs
Essential: Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Internet
