Job Purpose
The Peacebuilding Project Coordinator is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing initiatives that promote social cohesion, conflict resolution, and sustainable peace within the Syrian context. The role involves conducting conflict analysis, engaging with diverse stakeholders, and ensuring that peacebuilding activities align with community needs and donor requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Establishing & Strengthening the Peacebuilding Department:
- Lead the development of a dedicated peacebuilding department within IHR, ensuring alignment with its mission and strategic goals.
- Develop and institutionalize policies, procedures, and operational frameworks to guide the department’s structure and functions.
- Define the department’s mandate, objectives, and key focus areas, ensuring its sustainability and integration within the IHR.
- Establish internal coordination mechanisms to foster collaboration between the peacebuilding department and other IHR units, ensuring a holistic approach.
- Design and implement comprehensive policies and guidelines to govern peacebuilding initiatives and ensure program quality.
- Establish Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for conflict-sensitive programming, stakeholder engagement, and risk mitigation
Project management & Implementation:
- Design evidence-based peacebuilding interventions that address local conflict dynamics and promote social cohesion.
- Develop annual work plans, budgets, and project timelines, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Implement community-driven reconciliation initiatives, mediation efforts, and social cohesion programs tailored to the Syrian context.
- Monitor and adapt project activities to respond to evolving conflict dynamics and community needs.
- Ensure all interventions are conflict-sensitive and apply the Do No Harm approach.
- Promote cross-sectoral collaboration, ensuring peacebuilding efforts align with humanitarian, development, and governance initiatives.
Conflicts Analysis & Sensitives:
- Conduct regular conflict assessments and risk analyses to inform programming.
- Develop early warning and response mechanisms to mitigate emerging conflicts and tensions.
- Facilitate community-based conflict resolution and mediation efforts, ensuring inclusivity and sustainability.
- Advocate for sustainable, community-led solutions to conflict, displacement, and social fragmentation.
Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination:
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local communities, civil society organizations, donors, government entities, and international partners.
- Represent IHR in peacebuilding networks, working groups, and policy discussions.
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogues to enhance collaboration and address grievances.
- Advocate for the IHR’s peacebuilding agenda through policy engagement and strategic alliances.
- Facilitate and lead peacebuilding’s workshops in the local communities.
- Strengthen the capacity of local youth, women, and grassroots organizations to lead peacebuilding initiatives.
- Support community-led efforts to promote social cohesion, tolerance, and resilience in conflict-affected areas.
- Ensure gender-sensitive and inclusive approaches in all peacebuilding interventions.
Reporting:
- Prepare high-quality reports, case studies, and policy briefs for internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify funding opportunities and support the development of grant proposals and fundraising strategies for peacebuilding initiatives.
- Ensure transparency and compliance with donor requirements, financial regulations, and internal policies.
Qualification (Education/Work Experience)
- Essential:
- Degree in Peace & Conflict Studies, International Relations, Development Studies, or a related field.
- 5 years experiences in humanitarian, peacebuilding, or development programs in Syria context.
- Arabic Language is Native.
- English Language is Advanced (written, speaking, reading).
- Knowledge of conflict analysis tools, mediation techniques, and community engagement strategies.
- Strong communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and cultural sensitivity.
- MasterDegree in Peace & Conflict Studies, International Relations, Development Studies, or a related field.
- More than five years experiences in the related field.
Desirable:
