The Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University, is seeking applications for a full-time, probationary tenure-track or tenure-track periodontist at the rank of assistant or associate professor.Candidates must have successfully completed specialty training and a Master’s in Periodontics from an accredited program and be eligible for specialty licensure by the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia. A DDS, DMD or NDEB Equivalency certificate is an asset. If the candidate has not successfully completed their National Dental Specialty Exam (NDSE) in Periodontics administered in Canada, they must successfully do so within 12 months of the start of the position. Private practice privilege is integrated with this appointment; the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia does not offer academic licensure.Periodontics is a division in the Department of Dental Clinical Sciences. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical teaching in all aspects of Periodontics in the Faculty’s undergraduate programs, with the potential for teaching and research supervision in the Masters in Periodontics program. Preference will be given to those candidates with didactic and clinical teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels in periodontics. Additional expectations include active participation in scholarly activity and faculty committees.The successful candidate is expected to develop an extramurally-funded program of research and contribute to collaborative research initiatives within the Faculty. Experience as an independent principal investigator in research related to periodontics or oral health is an asset. Preference may be given to those holding a PhD in these areas.In addition, this individual will have demonstrated achievements in, or potential for, the following:
- The ability to work with cross-functional teams to support innovation and knowledge translation in oral health research.
- Capacity building in a research focus area that falls under Dalhousie University’s signature research cluster: ‘Healthy People, Communities, and Populations’ (see
